Munch heirs don't like new book

OSLO, Norway, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Norwegian publisher Aschehoug is holding up a book on artist Edvard Munch and his family because his relatives don't like it, it was reported Tuesday.

Munch had no children, so his relatives inherited his art and they are withholding it because they're unhappy with some of the author's material, Aftenposten reported.

Author Bodil Stenseth, who read 1,000 of the family's personal letters, said in her book Munch and his siblings feared mental illness and tuberculosis ran in the family, so they made a secret pact to remain single and not have children, Afternposten said.

Stenseth said her book isn't a biography, but "a family history, a portrait of a family that fostered a major artist in its midst."

She added the family was plagued by sickness and death, which hung like a "dark shadow" over their home.
