ESSEX, Conn., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- An 8-foot albino python used on stage by U.S. shock rock legend Alice Cooper had emergency surgery to remove a heating pad and cord, it was reported.
Dr. Richard Jacobs of Higganum, Conn., operated on Alice, the snake, for more than two hours to remove the heating pad and wiring from her stomach, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant said.
Alice was taken to the veterinarian after handlers noticed a large bulge in her body; X-rays revealed the obstruction.
"It was absolutely an emergency. She's a very lucky snake," said Alison Sloan, who said the wires could have ruptured Alice's intestines.
Sloan, who owns Ashleigh's Rain Forest in Essex, Conn., helps at-risk snakes.
Cooper, who was in the area to perform at Oakdale Theater in Wallingford, Conn., paid the $1,000 vet bill and has sent Alice to semi-retire at Sloan's rainforest.
Sloan lent Cooper a yellow anaconda for the Oakdale performance.
