Capone leads awards nominee list

LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- Producer Tom Capone garned five nominations to lead the field for the fifth annual Latin Grammy Awards announced Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Álvaro Alencar, Bebo Valdéz, Alejandro Sanz and Maria Rita, each received four nominations, Billboard.com reported Wednesday.

Capone was nominated for producer of the year, album of the year and best engineered album for Rita's self-titled set. His two other nominations in the record of the year category are for Rita's "A Festa" and Skank's "Dois Rios."

Other contenders for record of the year are Robi Draco Rosa's "Mas y Mas," the title tracks of Sanz's "No Es Lo Mismo" and Valdés and Diego El Cigala's "Lágrimas Negras" and "Andar Conmigo" by Julieta Venegas.

Winners are chosen by members of the Latin Recording Academy. For the second straight year, comedian George Lopez will host the event, which airs on CBS, Sept. 1.
