LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- Embattled Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland entered a no contest plea in a Los Angeles court to charges he was driving while drunk, it was reported Tuesday.
The musician, who has a long list of legal encounters because of substance abuse, entered his plea to the misdemeanor DUI charge Friday, with sentencing scheduled for Thursday, Antimusic.com said.
Weiland has been in and out of court for more than a year.
Last August a California judge sentenced Weiland to three years probation, including mandatory drug counseling, for a May 2003 arrest for possession of heroin and cocaine.
In January the court ordered Weiland into a rehabilitation facility for failing to show up for counseling.
In April a judge gave Weiland permission to tour with Velvet Revolver, which features former Guns N' Roses musicians Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. The band's first CD, "Contraband," debuted at No. 1.
