Hasselhoff to play 'Chicago' lawyer

LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- Former Baywatch actor David Hasselhoff is preparing to make his British stage debut as a scheming lawyer, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Hasselhoff will play attorney Billy Flynn in "Chicago," the role Richard Gere played in the 2002 movie version.

The Knight Rider star is scheduled to appear in 60 shows at London's Adelphi theater, beginning July 16.

"This is not about making money - this is about following my heart, challenging myself and having fun," said Hasselhoff. "Billy will be like every other attorney I've ever known, charming until he delivers the bill."

Hasselhoff made his debut on Broadway in "Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical" in 2001, but has never performed in a British theater.

He is best known for the TV series Baywatch, originally cancelled in the United States after just one season. Hasselhoff and his partners bought the rights to it in 1991, and it ran until 2001.
