Cobain guitar to hit auction block

DALLAS, March 26 (UPI) -- An electric guitar that once belonged to late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain will hit the auction block in Texas April 17.

The Dallas-based Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers auction will take place in association with the 27th Annual Dallas Guitar Show and Music Fest, Billboard.com reported Friday.

The auction will mark the first time since Cobain's 1994 death that one of his instruments will be available for sale to the public, the music magazine said on its Web site.

The guitar is a right-handed model modified to be played by a left-handed guitarist and is the only known example of a Mark IV-style Mosrite Gospel, which is a solid-body guitar instead of the Gospel's typical hollow body.

Cobain bought the instrument in San Francisco in 1990 and sold it in 1992.

Other instruments at the auction include James Jamerson's upright bass and a piano owned by Elton John on which he and Bernie Taupin composed "Your Song" and "Tiny Dancer."
