Sick Sting cancels concert dates

NEW YORK, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Illness has forced pop singer Sting to cancel or postpone several North American concert dates, Billboard reported Tuesday.

So far, the affected shows on Sting's "Sacred Love" tour have been Feb. 13 in San Diego, Feb. 14 in Phoenix, Feb. 15 in Las Vegas and Tuesday's concert in Oakland, Calif.

Only the Las Vegas show has been rescheduled. That concert at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel will now be on Friday. All tickets for the Feb. 15 show will be honored then.

Although contemporary jazz trumpeter Chris Botti is the opening act on all of the tour's North American dates, Sting's official Web site said support for this make-up show has not yet been determined, Billboard noted.

Tickets for canceled shows will be refunded where they were bought.

A second show scheduled for Wednesday at Oakland's Paramount Theatre is expected to go on as planned.

Sting will remain on the road in North America through a March 23 show in Ottawa.

After that he will kick off a European tour April 28 in Helsinki. That leg is set to conclude June 20 in Munich, and includes a June 6 appearance at Portugal's Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival.
