Producers Guild gives top honor to 'King'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The Producers Guild of America bestowed its top honor on "The Return of the King," part three of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, at Saturday's awards show.

The Producer's Guild award is the latest in a current string of wins for "The Return of the King." By winning the Guild's Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Theatrical Motion Picture, however, the Peter Jackson epic's chances for winning an Oscar have increased, according to Monday's Zap2it.com.

Ten of the past 14 winners of the Guild's top honor have gone on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, a prize that eluded Jackson's first two films from his "Lord of the Rings" package.

HBO was the other big winner of the night, dominating most of the TV categories, including best dramatic series, "Six Feet Under"; best comedy series, "Sex and the City"; best TV movie or mini-series, "Live in Baghdad"; and best long-form television, "My House in Umbria."

Bravo's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" won best reality or game show series.
