Hobbits missed each other in third film

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Actors Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan were saddened because their hobbit characters have so little screen time together in the final "Lord of the Rings" film.

"We hung around together like every day while we were filming 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' because we were in scenes together all the time, so it kind of informs on your work very well that once Bill and I were apart from each other in different parts of the country, as characters we were missing each other and as actors we were kind of missing that element of having your mate there who you've done so much work with," Monaghan, who plays Merry in the trilogy, told UPI's Karen Butler.

Seemingly inseparable in the first two films, Merry and Pippin follow different paths in the third film.

"But going off on your own journey is kind of exciting," he admitted. "And being able to then experience each other's work and go: 'Wow. I didn't know you were doing that ... ' To forge relationships with different people is also exciting."
