Al Sharpton to host SNL in December

NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential candidate and controversial civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton has been signed to host NBC's Saturday Night Live on Dec. 6.

Sharpton joins SNL's list of "host-politicians," including former Vice President Al Gore, Senator John McCain, New York Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Ed Koch and fellow civil rights leader the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

NBC said a recent Gallup poll conducted for the National Newspaper Publishers Association showed Sharpton leading the Democratic field in black voters.

Sharpton will be joined by musical guest Pink, making her second appearance on the program.

"Saturday Night Live," which premiered Oct. 11, 1975, is telecast from SNL Studios in New York City.
