NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Peyton Manning became the first quarterback in 12 seasons to throw six touchdown passes in a game Sunday as Indianapolis routed New Orleans, 55-21.
Manning's father Archie Manning played 11 years with the Saints and is the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards (21,734), touchdown passes (115), completions (1,849) and attempts (3,335).
Manning passed for all of his touchdowns in the first three quarters, when the Colts built a 48-13 lead.
Manning became the first player since Washington's Mark Rypien in 1991 to throw for six TDs in a game.
With the game completely out of hand, Manning did not get an opportunity to match the NFL record if seven TD passes in a game. Manning finished 20-of-25 for 314 yards without an interception.
The Colts improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1996.
