Roberts and Daly take home first Emmys

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Doris Roberts, the mother in the CBS comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond," won her third Emmy Award Sunday night for best supporting actress in a comedy.

"Wow, I'm a triple crown winner," Roberts said as she accepted her second consecutive award during the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium Sunday night.

"Three times, wow. I remember when there were only three channels," Roberts said.

In the second award of the night, Tyne Daly took home the statuette for supporting actress in a drama for her role on the CBS drama, "Judging Amy."

Daly had a particularly tough year. Richard Crenna, her love interest on the show, died during a story arc.

She made it a point to thank Crenna during her acceptance speech.

The awards show was being broadcast by the Fox network. Earlier comedian Bill Cosby was named as the recipient of the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
