DOHA, Qatar, May 18 (UPI) -- Qatar is looking to Lebanon and Turkey as export markets for liquefied natural gas, the Qatari deputy energy minister said in Doha.
Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, the Qatari deputy prime minister of energy and industry, said Qatar is in talks with Lebanon and Turkey as part of an effort to expand its reach in the international market, Lebanese news Web site Ya Libnan reports.
Turkish state pipeline operator BOTAS is considered for LNG sales. Lebanon, for its part, is interested in purchasing more than 3 million tons of LNG from Qatari suppliers.
Lebanon in 2009 considered the use of Egyptian gas for the use of power plants in northern Lebanon.
Attiyah said, meanwhile, that Lebanon and Turkey are conducting studies on the feasibility of building a natural gas pipeline between the two countries.
Qatar holds some of the largest gas reserves in the world, sharing the largest gas field in the world with Iran.
