DANVERS, Mass., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Massachusetts-based Babcock Power Inc. and Arkansas-based ThermoEnergy Corp. announced a joint venture to develop carbon-capture technology.
The newly formed Babcock-Thermo Carbon Capture LLC will develop and commercialize a new carbon-capture power plant design.
Though they've worked together for a year, this new formal agreement will be to develop subsystems and designs for a pilot plant using a patented technology.
The new technology takes a thermodynamic approach that's based on high-pressure oxy-fuel chemistry.
Babcock-Thermo said the new plant designs could be more efficient and more economical than past designs.
"Babcock-Thermo Carbon Capture LLC will be well positioned to compete in the multibillion-dollar CO2-capture market," James F. Wood, president and chief executive of Babcock Power Inc., said.
