Rosatom, Japan cooperate on nuclear

MOSCOW, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Russia's Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corp. said it is ready to move forward with a bilateral agreement with Japan to work on nuclear power.

Rosatom's civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Japan will be aimed at allowing Japan to aid Russia in building a nuclear electric power plant using the latest generation technology, Kyodo News International reports.

Sergei Kiriyenko, president of Rosatom, said an agreement could be signed during Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's next visit to Japan.

Both sides reportedly have agreed to a number of contingencies, and on the Japanese side several private companies are on board, including Toshiba Corp.
