Canada's waste-to-power plant is online

SAVONA, British Columbia, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Canadian firms Pristine Power Inc. and Enmax Green Power Inc. announced their new energy plant is online.

Commercial operations started at the 5-megawatt Enpower plant in Savona, where the power comes from the heat generated by a natural gas pipeline.

Pristine Power said the project in British Columbia is in a 20-year electricity purchase agreement with BC Hydro.

A Pristine representative said the process takes waste heat and converts it to pressured vapor to drive a turbine generator.

Together with another project, 10 megawatts will be produced using Pristine and Enmax technology.
