The project is the third for Centrica in the region. It's about 5 miles offshore and commissioning is scheduled for this year.

The British Department of Energy and Climate Change reported that offshore wind energy generation increased more than 50 percent during the latter part of 2012 while onshore wind capacity increased 38 percent.

The British government is committed to a goal of getting 30 percent of the country's electricity from renewable resources by 2020.
