64-turbine wind farm completed in Utah

BOSTON, May 10 (UPI) -- Boston renewable energy company First Wind announced it finished building a wind farm in Utah that can provide enough energy for 64,000 homes.

Power generated from the second phase of the 102-megawatt Milford wind corridor in Utah is slated for consumers in California pending a power purchase agreement with Southern California Public Power Authority.

The second phase features 64 wind turbines that combined with the 204 MW primary phase will generate enough electricity to power up to 64,000 homes, the company said.

Wind energy generated from both phases would also decrease carbon dioxide emissions by about 300,000 tons per year compared with conventional energy resources.

"These projects are cost-effective resources which benefit the local communities in Utah, while also supporting the renewable objectives of our communities in California. Delivering clean energy is a partnership in which we all share common objectives," SCPPA Executive Director Bill Carnahan said in a statement.
