PARIS, May 9 (UPI) -- French energy company Total announced its latest discovery in Angola produced more than 5,000 barrels of oil during initial testing.

Total announced that its Angolan subsidiary discovered oil off the coast of Angola in water depths of more than 1,400 feet.

The reservoir, the company said in a statement, produced more than 5,000 barrels per day of high-quality light crude oil during production tests.

Transparency International and Revenue Watch in a March report found Angola was one of the countries that scored at the bottom in a survey based on conformity with U.N. guidelines on transparency in the energy sector.

Results from a February survey by the Platts news agency found that oil production declines from Iran and Nigeria were balanced by increased production in Angola, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

The survey was conducted before the start of conflict in Libya.
