Floods don't affect Saudi oil production

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Floods last week in Jeddah haven't had an effect on production from oil refineries there, said state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco.

Jeddah last week was drenched with more than 4 inches of rain that left at least 10 people dead and more than 100 people injured in flooding.

Saudi Aramco said production at its Jeddah refinery, however, was continuing as normal.

"We can confirm normal operations are taking place," the company said in a statement to Bloomberg News. Most of the fuel oil, gasoline and other refined petroleum products at the Jeddah refinery are for domestic consumption.

Saudi Aramco, the largest state-owned oil company in the world, said it can produce about 450,000 barrels of oil per day at the Jeddah refinery at maximum operational capacity.

A refinery owned by Saudi Aramco on the Red Sea coastal town of Yanbu, however, is closed until March 11 as part of a planned shutdown, Bloomberg News said.
