PARIS, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Energy services company Technip announced it secured an Emirati contract for construction of a complex of offshore installations at the Umm Lulu field.
Technip, which has headquarters in Paris, said it secured the contract from Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co. for field development. The contract is valued at $1.69 billion and calls for the engineering and fabrication of a "super complex" consisting of six linked drilling platforms.
Vaseem Khan, a vice president in charge of Middle East operations, said Thursday the award confirms the company's "world leading position in offshore engineering." Technip has worked in the Emirati energy sector for more than 30 years.
The online Oil & Gas Journal in May reported the offshore Umm Lulu field will give up at least 100,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak. The first phase of development should yield 24,000 bpd.
Technip said its work would be completed by the first half of 2018.
