Repsol launches gas production in Russia

MADRID, March 8 (UPI) -- Spanish energy company Repsol and Bermuda's Alliance Oil announced the start of commercial natural gas production from central Russia.

The companies said commercial production from the Syskonsyninskoye natural gas field in the central Khanty-Mansiysk region of Russia has begun. The step is the first for their consortium, A&R Oil and Gas, which was set up for Russian energy exploration.

"The first successful start-up through AROG is especially satisfying for us as we contribute to unlock the great potential of an area which will continue to supply large volumes of gas to the domestic market in coming years," Fernando Martinez Fresneda, Repsol's general manager for Russia, said in a statement.

Alliance said it provides a solid foundation for its upstream plans in Russia.

The companies said initial gas delivery from Syskonsyninskoye was around 30,194 cubic feet per day for the gas transit system managed by Russia's Gazprom. Additional production is expected as both sides have plans to drill six new wells in the region next year.
