Oilers claim Roussel off waivers

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 10 -- The Edmonton Oilers added some depth to their goaltending position Wednesday by claiming Dominic Roussel, who had been waived by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

The 30-year-old Roussel has played in 13 games this season, posting a record of 2-5-2 and a 2.85 goals-against average.

He appeared in 51 games over the last three seasons for Anaheim as a backup to Guy Hebert.

"Any time a team can add to its goaltending depth it has to take that opportunity, and Roussel has major league capabilities," said Oilers General Manager Kevin Lowe.

Roussel, who was selected 63rd overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, has also played for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Winnipeg Jets in his career.

Tommy Salo, the Oilers' top netminder, has played in 40 of Edmonton's 44 games, and will receive much needed support from Roussel down the stretch.

Roussel was not expected to arrive will travel to Edmonton Wednesday, but will not be in

the lineup against the Nashville Predators.
