Dooley spent the pastthree seasons with the Crew, registering five goals and four assists in 63 games, and was twice selected as an MLS All-Star.

Prior to joining MLS, he spent 10 seasons in the competitive German Bundesliga, playing in more than 250 games. He was named United States Soccer Male Athlete of the Year in 1993 and captained the U.S. World Cup squad in 1998.

"Thomas will provide the leadership and experience to our defense and midfield," MetroStars coach Octavio Zambrano said. "His presence will be felt immediately in our locker room and his worth ethic will be something our younger players can emulate as we continue to rebuild our team."

The MetroStars finished with the worst record in MLS last season (7-25) and scored just 32 goals.

Duhaney was acquired by the MetroStars from the Tampa Bay Mutiny on June 29, 1998 and totaled two goals and two assists in 33 games with the club.
