Hollywood gets ready for Golden Globes

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 16 -- The movie and television industry is getting ready for the 55th annual Golden Globe Awards, to be presented Sunday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. 'Titanic' is nominated for eight awards, including best dramatic movie.

Other best movie nominees include 'Amistad,' 'The Boxer,' 'Good Will Hunting' and 'L.A. Confidential.' 'As Good As It Gets,' 'The Full Monty,' 'Men in Black,' 'My Best Friend's Wedding' and 'Wag the Dog' are nominated for best musical or comedy movie. Four-time Golden Globe winners Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson are nominated for best actor in a comedy or musical movie -- Hoffman for his role in 'Wag the Dog' and Nicholson for 'As Good As It Gets.' Three-time Golden Globe winners Jessica Lange and Helen Hunt are both up for awards this year. Lange is nominated for best actress in a dramatic movie, 'A Thousand Acres.' Hunt is nominated for best actress in a comedy or musical movie, 'As Good As It Gets,' and for best actress in a TV comedy series for 'Mad About You.' Fourteen of the last 18 Golden Globe winners for both best actor and actress went on to win Academy Awards in the same year. The nominees for best drama series on TV are 'Chicago Hope' (CBS), 'ER' (NBC), 'Law & Order' (NBC), 'NYPD Blue' (ABC) and 'The X- Files' (Fox). There are six nominees for best musical or comedy TV series: '3rd Rock From the Sun' (NBC), 'Ally McBeal' (Fox), 'Frasier' (NBC), 'Friends' (NBC), 'Seinfeld' (NBC) and 'Spin City' (ABC). NBC has 23 nominations, and ABC has 10. CBS and Fox each have 6. The awards will be presented in Beverly Hills, Calif., in ceremonies televised live on NBC at 8 p.m. EST. ---
