Fugitive caught in Mexico

LOS ANGELES, May 20 -- One of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives has been arrested in Mexico in connection with the execution-style slayings of four people in Southern California last September. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says Mexican federal authorities arrested 30-year-old David 'Spooky' Alvarez in Tijuana on Tuesday.

Details of the arrest weren't immediately available. Alvarez is accused of the Sept. 29 shooting deaths of four people, including two young girls and a gardener, at a home in Baldwin Park, about 15 miles east of Los Angeles. Three other people were seriously wounded in the attack. Authorities believe Alvarez was searching for his estranged wife, who had been living with relatives there. When he couldn't find her, Alvarez allegedly attacked most of her family in retaliation. He was added to the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List last December and the FBI announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Los Angeles County also offered a $15,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. FBI officials said investigators have interviewed several people who saw or met with Alvarez after the slayings, but they admitted withholding information on his whereabouts because they feared reprisal from him or his gang affiliates. Trinia Irene Aguirre, who is believed to have helped Alvarez, was arrested last November and is being held without bail. Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives were trying Tuesday to get Alvarez extradited. ---
