Hells Angels attacked in biker war

COPENHAGEN, May 7 -- Two members of the Danish chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club were seriously injured Tuesday when unidentified assailants threw two hand grenades into their Copenhagen residence, police said. The attack, which was carried out from a passing car, appeared to the latest act of reprisal in a series of violent clashes in four Nordic countries between Hells Angels and the rival biker group, Bandidos.

Police sealed off the crime scene in the Bronshoj district where the incident happened. A stolen car that police believe to have been used in the attack was found nearby, but no arrests were made. Two weeks ago a jailed Bandidos member was severely injured after a hand grenade was thrown into his prison cell while he slept. No arrest was made in the incident, but police speculated that it was in retaliation for a rocket attack a few days previously on a fortified Hells Angels clubhouse located west of Copenhagen. About a month before those attacks, one Bandidos member was killed and three others seriously injured in a machine gun attack at Copenhagen's international airport. Another member of Bandidos was gunned down at Oslo's international airport the same day. Four Hells Angels members were charged in connection with the Copenhagen airport asault. Police in recent weeks have stepped up their surveillance and raiding of the gangs and their supporters in response to growing public pressure to disarm the bikers who are known to possess both handguns, automatic rifles and stolen military weaponry, including grenades and rocket launchers. Although most of the recent violence has taken place in residential areas or public places, no non-combatants in the biker war have been injured up to now.
