U.S. Marshals arrest one of 15 'most wanted' fugitives

WASHINGTON, March 20 -- The U.S. Marshals Service on Saturday arrested Peter Christopher Scott Macfarlane, one of the agency's 15 'most wanted' fugitives.

Macfarlane, arrested in Oregon Saturday, is suspected of being the mastermind of an international drug-trafficking network with ties to Canadian organized crime, according to a U.S. Marshals Service statement.

The 47-year-old native of Glasgow, Scotland, was not armed and offered no resistance when apprehended by Deputy U.S. Marshals in Applegate, Ore. He was using the alias of Richard Parker, the statement said.

Macfarlane, who was added to the Marshals Service 'most wanted' list earlier this month, is wanted in Vermont for failure to surrender after conviction. He had been sentenced to 15 years in prison for possession, diistribution and importation of narcotics. He is also wanted by Canadian authorities as the alleged leader of an international drug-smuggling network, the statement said.

Macfarlane is being held at the Jackson County Jail in Medford, Ore., pending arraignment and disposition of charges.
