Aladdin' reports strong early video sales

BURBANK, Calif. -- The Walt Disney Co. said Monday 'Aladdin' sold more than 10 million home-video copies in less than a week in retail stores.

Ann Daly, president of Buena Vista Home Video Inc., said the video went on sale last week at $24.99 and has sold 10.6 million copies, tanslating to about $265 million at retail.

Disney executives predicted earlier this year that 'Aladdin' would easily top the lofty figures served up by 'Beauty and the Beast.' 'Beauty' smashed records in selling 20 million copies and taking in $600 million in sales during last year's holiday season.
