Seventeen injured in stage collapse

MILWAUKEE -- Concert fans rushed the stage when the singer of an alternative rock band told them to ignore fire laws and 'go ahead and polka,' causing the platform to collapse and resulting in 17 minor injuries, police said Tuesday.

Capt. David Bartholomew said 20 to 30 people rushed onto an extension of the stage where the band They Might Be Giants was performing at the Modjeska Theater between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday.
