ATLANTA -- Actor Rob Lowe denied in court records that he seduced a 16-year-old girl who allegedly taped a sexual encounter with him, and the girl's father said his 'very modest' daughter never intended to blackmail Lowe for $2 million.
Fulton County State Court records unsealed Wednesday at the request of lawyers for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution also indicate Lowe's lawyers tried to 'reach a compromise settlement' eight months after the alleged incident last summer and nearly six weeks before the girl's mother filed suit against the actor.
Lena Arlene Wilson filed the lawsuit May 12 seeking unspecified civil damages from Lowe for the alleged seduction of her daughter, Lena Jan Parsons, who turned 17 last month.
Additionally, District Attorney Lewis Slaton is investigating possible criminal charges against Lowe for exploiting a minor in the alleged sex videotape.
Lowe's lawyers asked the court to dismiss the suit by Wilson on grounds she has no standing to sue since she no longer has custody of the girl.
Wilson's former husband, retired Air Force Maj. John Parsons, gained custody of Jan and her 17-year-old brother in divorce proceedings last summer and 'will not bring an action on his daughter's behalf,' Lowe's legal brief said. It did not elaborate.
Parsons said in a television interview on WSB-TV Wednesday that his daughter never intended to use the videotape for blackmail, as charged in court records.
'No, she would never do something like that. She wouldn't want to be involved in something like that,' he said, suggesting that the girl took the tape to prevent anyone else from viewing it.
'She's a very modest girl,' he said. 'It may not appear that way on the tape, but she's a very modest girl yet today.'
However, Parsons' neighbor, Amanda Hinson, repeated on TV's 'Entertainment Tonight' what she had said in an affidavit filed in the divorce proceedings.
'She (Jan) said that she had slept with Rob Lowe. She was going to sell the tape for $2 million for blackmail and she told me that if I told anyone that she would kill me,' Hinson said.
Jan Parsons and a 22-year-old female friend met Lowe at the Club Rio in Atlanta during the Democratic National Convention last summer and allegedly went to the actor's downtown hotel room where they had sex with him and filmed the videotape, according to documents filed in Cobb County Superior Court in connection with the divorce.
A co-owner of the Club Rio said Parsons 'looks like she's 23 years old' and gained admission to the club with a 'fake ID.'
In the interview with 'Entertainment Tonight,' Hinson said: 'She said that she was going to send the tape to Rob Lowe which they had made copies of and was going to get $2 million.
'I think when they did leave the hotel room they did have thoughts running through their minds about a setup, but I'm not sure now since everything is out in the open that they would ever think about that or say they thought about it,' she said.
'I did hear her say that,' Hinson insisted. 'They took the tape from his hotel room without him knowing.'
Lowe spokeswoman Lisa Casteller said the actor had no comment 'and will have no comment until the matter is resolved.'
