HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. -- The body of a 22-year-old newlywed, who went for a walk Christmas Eve and vanished, was found Thursday in a plastic bag in a lonely farm area near her home and officials said she had been strangled.

The discovery of Lisa Solomon's partially clad body ended a massive, six-day search by police, volunteers and family members aided by dogs, helicopters and psychics.

A spokesman for the Suffolk County Medical Examiner said late Thursday that an autopsy showed, 'Lisa Solomon died as a result of strangulation.'

The spokesman declined to provide other details and referred questions to the Suffolk County Homicide Squad, but investigators there could not be reached for comment.

Police, meanwhile, were questioning people who knew the young woman, including her family and friends.

They also were searching for a spurned suitor known only as Rob who had been bothering the victim with phone calls, but authorities said they had no 'formal suspect.'

A Huntington Town auxiliary police officer and a cousin of the missing woman's husband discovered her body at 11:22 p.m. Wednesday in a lot on Pulaski Road, about 2 miles west of her home in Huntington Station, said police spokesman Salvatore Yovino.

The body of the bride of two months was found stuffed into a large plastic bag next to bags of leaves dumped in the wooded lot in a farm area between Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor.

The victim, who had been wearing black sweatpants, a dark blue sweatshirt and sneakers, was partially clad when she was discovered, police said.

The young bride's uncle formally identified the body, said police spokesman Officer Randy Jaret. Her grief-stricken husband, Matthew, 23, went to the scene, went into shock, and had to be taken to Huntington Hospital, he added.

A spokesman for the hospital said he was treated and released after two hours.

Howard Klerk, the victim's uncle, said 'All we want is just prayers for Lisa.'

He added that he appreciated the help the family had gotten.

'We want to give that thanks to everyone who cooperated,' he said.

Family members 'are holding up as well as could be expected,' a neighbor said.

Solomon, a loan officer at the Anchor Savings Bank branch at Huntington Station, vanished after she left her home on Christmas Eve to get some fresh air.

Police said she had a 'little tiff' with her husband before she left. The young bride wanted to watch a videotaped soap opera and became annoyed when he objected, they said.

Matthew Solomon fell asleep and when he awoke several hours later and found she was still gone, he called police, detectives said.

Police, joined by the frantic husband, relatives, motorcycle club members and psychics, searched neighborhoods, as well as nearby wooded and beach areas.
