SCHOOL TO BE BUILT ON ROCK

By WILLIAM C. TROTT, United Press International

The rock band REO Speedwagon is doing its part for education by putting on a benefit concert for a Woodruff, S.C., high school that was destroyed by an arson fire Jan. 11.

The Aug. 14 show at Clemson University is expected to draw about 9,000 people to raise money for construction of a new Woodruff High School. 'We want to demonstrate the power of rock 'n' roll and also send out a positive signal that education is important,' says lead singer Kevin Cronin. 'At a time when students are dropping out of school across the country, these particular teenagers in South Carolina don't even have a school, which blows my mind. We want to pledge our support to them.'
