He had been admitted Feb. 20, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Crown, along with his brothers, Henry and Sol, founded Material Service Corp. in 1919. The construction materials firm merged with General Dynamics of St. Louis in 1959. Since then General Dynamics has become one of the world's largest manufacturers of military arms.

General Dynamics, which has been involved in several bribery scandals and cases of overcharging the government, is now run largely by Crown's nephew, Lester Crown.

Services for Irving Crown were to be private, a family member said.
