LOS ANGELES -- Authorities discovered a third body dumped in brush alongside the Hollywood Freeway, less than a mile from bushes where the remains of two teenage boys were discovered last month.

Officers said the man whose body was found Friday had probably been killed within the past two days.

They declined to disclose other details, but said it probably was not tied to the deaths of the youths.

The boys' decomposed bodies were found July 29 in brush near Echo Park by police investigating a citizens' complaints of a foul odor. They were identified this week as Raymond Davis, 13, of Pittsburg, Calif., and Robert Avila, 16, of Los Angeles.

Detectives said the same person probably killed both youths a month apart and left their bodies in the bushes at different times.

An autopsy Thursday showed that Davis, who was reported missing June 17, died of strangulation. Results of a medical examination on Avila, who had been missing since July 21, have not been disclosed.

The third body has not been identified.
