ABC and the people who create its daytime fare...

NEW YORK -- ABC and the people who create its daytime fare walked away Tuesday with 11 Emmy Awards for special programming and craft achievements to lead CBS, which picked up six, and NBC, which collected only one.

Syndicated shows received seven.

The special awards preceded general awards for daytime television which will be presented Friday. Honors for prime-time programming will be distributed in Los Angeles in September.

Winners in Tuesday's presentation ceremony were, by category:

Outstanding variety series: 'The Regis Philbin Show,' E.V. DiMassa Jr. and Feed Tatshore, producers. NBC.

Outstanding host in a variety series: Merv Griffin, 'The Merv Griffin Show.' Syndicated.

Outstanding informational-instructional programming in the short form: 'In the News,' Joel Heller, executive producer and Walter Lister, producer. CBS.

Outstanding performer in children's programming: Bob Keeshan, 'Captain Kangaroo Show.' CBS.

Outstanding individual direction in children's programming: Arthur Allan Seidelman, 'She Drinks a Little.' ABC After School Special.
