CLEVELAND -- Police are trying to determine if a religious disagreement or a political argument between rival Arab factions led to the shooting death of one man and the wounding of two others on a downtown street.

Salim Abilmouna, 33, died Thursday shortly after being taken to St. Vincent Charity Hospital.

Police said a Rocky River man who they did not identify was arrested as a suspect.

Listed in serious condition at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital with multiple wounds was Bassam Khawam, 23, of Cleveland. His brother, Jamil Khawam, 27, of Cleveland, was listed in fair condition at Lutheran Medical Center with a upper left chest wound.

Police spokesman Robert Bolton said the brothers were technically under arrest pending further investigation.

'We don't know if it was a political argument or a religious disagreement,' Bolton said. 'We have to question all the witnesses before we decide.'
