LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Democrat Harvey Sloane was elected mayor of Louisville by a landslide margin Tuesday over Republican George Clark.

With votes from a third of the vote counted, Sloane -- who served as mayor from 1973-77 -- led Clark by an almost 3-1 margin and was ahead in all 12 wards.

Sloane, 45, pledged to work with Republicans to achieve common goals. A public health physician, he was elected mayor of Louisville in 1973 in his first try for public office.

Clark, 48, founded the Louisville-based Burger Queen fast-food restaurant chain. The mayoral race was his first campaign for public office.
