NEW YORK -- New York City will host the Miss Universe 30th anniversary pageant in July, marking the first time the international contest has been held in the city, pageant officials announced Tuesday.

This year's pageant also marks the first time in 10 years the pageant has been staged in the United States, said Harold Glasser, president of Miss Universe Inc.

Glasser said contestants from 85 countries will begin arriving in New York July 2 for almost three weeks of activities. The pageant will be broadcast July 20 over CBS.
