Actor saves neighbor from rape

NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- "Inside Man" star James "P.J." Ransone is being hailed as a hero for saving a woman from a would-be rapist outside his New York apartment.

Ransone told the New York Post he was studying Monday night for an audition when he heard cries for help.

He called 911, grabbed a metal bar and ran outside "in my pajama bottoms -- no shoes, no socks and no shirt," Ransone said.

He found a man in the vestibule "choking my neighbor and pulling his (penis) out," he said. "I pictured my mom, my girlfriend and every girl I've ever loved and thought, 'Vengeance is mine.'"

Ransone pursued man as he ran down the street into a building, broke the glass door to gain entry and popped him on the back with the metal bar.

The two exchanged angry words and the attacker fled again as police arrived on the scene, the Post said. Police said an arrest was expected soon.

"I did what anybody would have done," Ransone said.

The actor, who has appeared on TV's "The Wire," "Love Monkey" and "CSI," said at least now, casting directors can't say "I'm not tough enough."
