Michael J. Stoops (born December 31, 1961) is the head football coach at the University of Arizona, his first head coaching position. He previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, Kansas State University and the University of Oklahoma. He is the younger brother of Oklahoma head coach, Bob Stoops.
Stoops, one of 10 children born to Ron and Dee Stoops, attended Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, where his dad was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator.
After high school Stoops played for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes (1982–1984) as a strong safety. He played on the same team with quarterback Chuck Long, and was a two-time all-Big Ten selection. While at Iowa he collided with a goal post during a game at Michigan State, and knocked it over.
