YAOUNDE, Cameroon, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A suicide bombing in Cameroon killed 10 people Saturday morning, according to security forces in the country.
The attack in the village Nigue, in the northern part of the West African country, is suspected to have been carried out by Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group that has for six-years waged a war to establish a religious state in Cameroon.
Boko Haram killed more than 7,500 people in 2014 alone during its murderous campaign to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria, making it the most deadly militant group in the world, despite the lack of press attention it has received in comparison to the group calling themselves the Islamic State, also identified as Daesh and by the acronyms ISIS and ISIL, in Syria and Iraq.
"The initial figures speak of 10 dead including the suicide bombers and around a dozen wounded," a senior Cameroonian army commander told NBC News.
The group has struck Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon this year, turning the Lake Chad border region into a war zone.
A coalition force led by Nigeria and made up of soldiers from several countries in the region, helped by supplies and troops from the United States, is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
