Suspected drug lord Tirso Martinez Sanchez arrested in Mexico

LEON, Mexico, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Alleged Mexican drug lord Tirso Martinez Sanchez was arrested by federal forces in Leon, Mexico, the country's National Safety Commission said.

Martinez Sanchez, 47, regarded by U.S. police and courts as responsible for bringing 76 tons of cocaine into the United States between 2000 and 2003, was arrested Feb. 2, CNN Mexico reported Monday

U.S. authorities have offered five million dollars for his capture.

He has outstanding arrest warrants in Mexico and in the United States, and although considered an independent, has ties to drug cartels in Colombia and Mexico, officials in Mexico said.
