Indian Home Ministry wants report on U.S. ship

TUTICORIN, India, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- India's Home Ministry requested a report on a U.S. ship that was detained by the Indian Coast Guard for illegally carrying arms and buying diesel.

The ministry on Monday called on the Tamil Nadu government and other agencies to create a report containing details on the ship, its crew, and its armed guards, as well as its purpose for being in Indian waters, the Press Trust of India reported.

"We want a detailed report. It is a serious matter as the ship was carrying arms and bought diesel in India illegally," a home ministry official said.

MV Seaman Guard Ohio was intercepted and detained by the Indian Coast Guard Saturday, about 15 nautical miles off the coast of Tuticorin.

The ship was illegally carrying arms and ammunition and about 396 gallons of diesel fuel, and was not authorized to entered Indian waters, officials said
