Saving the country is first priority of Greek prime minister

ATHENS, Greece, June 25 (UPI) -- Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras called Tuesday for better coordination between the two remaining parties in Greece's power-sharing coalition.

"Each of us has his own political beliefs, but the overriding ideology right now is saving the country," said Samaras. "We have no choice but to succeed and we are determined to succeed."

He told members of his new cabinet in Parliament the country has no time to waste, Ekathimerini.com reported.

"Our immediate priority is to return to recovery ahead of time, defeat unemployment, bring in investment, avoid new measures and create jobs for youth," the prime minister said.

Samaras revamped his cabinet late Monday after the Democratic Left party pulled out of the coalition over a dispute concerning public broadcaster ERT.

The move left Samaras with a tiny majority in the 300-member House and PASOK as the remaining coalition partner.

PASOK chief Evangelos Venizelos assumed the posts of deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
