Italian transit-workers go on strike

ROME, March 22 (UPI) -- A nationwide transit-worker strike in Italy led to more than 75 percent of the country's public bus transportation coming to a stop Friday, officials said.

The 24-hour strike was organized by the FILT-CGIL transport labor union, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.

The union said national adherence to the strike is "high" and involved about 75 percent of buses.

However, limited bus service has been made available during the strike.

Some of Italian airline Alitalia's pilots from the FILT-CGIL, Uiltrasporti and Ugl unions also participated in the strike.
