LONDON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The African good-governance organization Mo Ibrahim Foundation said Friday it will award its $1 million prize to Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa.

Tutu, a Nobel Laureate, will receive the award for being "one of Africa's great voices for justice, freedom, democracy [and] responsible, responsive government," the London foundation said Friday in a statement.

The foundation, funded by Sudanese businessman and philanthropist Mo Ibrahim, chose Tutu, who although not a member of government, was judged "courageous and frank in telling those in power the truth, always," AllAfrica.com reported Friday.
