The official said he expected that blaze to be extinguished within a few hours.

President Hugo Chavez said Tuesday the fire in one of the first two tanks to ignite Saturday had been put out.

The number of people killed in the Saturday explosion and fire at the Amuay refinery was lowered to 41 Monday after officials learned of duplicate reports of deaths.

Eighty people were injured, and some 209 homes and 11 businesses were damaged.
