Yemeni leader denies rumor of U.S. control

SANAA, Yemen, May 28 (UPI) -- Yemeni President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi has denied allegations U.S. Ambassador Gerard Feierstein was controlling the transitional process.

Amid fierce criticism from his political opponents -- men of the former regime -- Hadi reiterated he was the one in charge of the nation's future at a press conference held Sunday.

The Secretary General of the General People's Congress Sultan Barakani and Deputy Information Minister Abdu al-Ganadi -- loyalists of ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh -- accused Hadi of being a pawn in America's grand plan for the Middle East, branding him a "toy-president" the 26 September newspaper said Monday.

Mareb Press said Monday Hadi called on the gulf countries that co-signed the Yemeni power transfer back in November 2011 to dismiss Prime Minister Mohamed Salem Basendwa, contending that rather than serving the nation, the premier was following the orders of a powerful tribal family, al-Ahmars.
