PML protests pro-Gilani resolution

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 3 (UPI) -- Pakistan Muslim League members of the National Assembly Thursday protested a resolution in favor of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

PML members wore black strips on their arms and raised slogans against Gilani, who was found guilty of contempt charges on April 26 for refusing to bring back old corruption charges against President Asif Ali Zardari, Paktribune reported.

The resolution, which was adopted by the National Assembly Thursday but was tabled by Federal Law Minister Farooq Naek, voiced confidence in Gilani.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court dismissed a petition seeking the removal of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilan after he was convicted of contempt of court.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui ruled Wednesday the petition was premature and it could not proceed without a detailed judgment of the Supreme Court, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

"The petition is premature, wait for the detailed verdict," Siddiqui wrote.
